It always important to take the time to check your roof occasionally. If it has been a few years since you have checked out the health of the roof on your property it is a great idea to get it done now before the winter comes. The old saying goes ‘fix the roof while the sun is shining’ all while it is cliché, it is certainly still applicable.
But if you are going to check your roof you need to make sure that you are doing it as safely as possible. Here we take a look at how you can check the health of your roof without putting yourself at unnecessary risk.
Check what you can from inside
The first step in checking your roof is something that everyone can do – inspect it from the inside. If you roof has any serious problems, it is likely that you will be able to see them from the inside. This could include patches of damp, obvious sagging, draughts or in some cases actually being able to see light from the outside. If you notice any of this, you already know that you have a problem with your roof.
Use the proper equipment on the roof itself
To carry out a full inspection of your roof you will need to actually get on top of it to understand the condition of the tiles and to see if any further problems are emerging. You don’t necessarily need to have experience to check over the roof, but it is extremely important that you take care. The most important aspect of doing this is using the right equipment.
You will need an extension ladder or even a roof ladder to be able to get up to the roof safely and carry out the inspection. Do not attempt to use a ladder in a way that it was not designed for.
Take extra care
Remember that if your roof is in poor condition it can be extremely hazardous. Loose tiles can fall or the integrity of the roof may not be what it could be. Take real care when you are checking out the roof and do not attempt to climb on a roof that looks unsafe. Always take more precautions than you think is necessary, and if you are ever in doubt, call in professionals to deal with it for you.
